Mr. D'Elia, I just wanted to let you know that I'm in the middle of A Place at the Table and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It's a wonderful thing for me to be able to get a glimpse into the life of a man whose works I've read for several years now. Thanks for the labor you put into this! John was the senior minister of the American International Church in London from 2007-2015. He is a native of California, the fourth of five generations in his family who have lived in Burbank. John was baptized as a child, ordained as an elder, and ordained as a minister on the same spot in the First Presbyterian Church in his hometown.
John has served churches in California and spent a year as a minister at St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh. Since 1994 John has worked in the non-profit world. After six years at Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles, John moved to Fuller Seminary, where he was the director of development for the School of Theology. Next John served with the Presbyterian Foundation, managing its operations for the 13 western states.
The son of two teachers, education was highly valued in John’s family. He earned his B.A. in English Literature at UCLA, and an M.Div. and Th.M. in Church History at Fuller Theological Seminary. In 2005 he was awarded a Ph.D. in History from the University of Stirling in Scotland.
